Maximum temperature on the contact surface of brakes
AbstractIn this study the calculation model of a maximum temperature in the contact region of a braking system has been developed. Based on the summation hypothesis, the maximum temperature achieved on contact surfaces of discs has been found from sum of the mean temperature on these surfaces and the flash temperature. Nominal temperature distribution has been obtained from analytical solution to the proper thermal problem of friction. A one-dimensional boundary-value problem of heat conduction has been formulated for a strip and solved with account of the exponential growth of contact pressure with time, the convective heat exchange with environment on the lateral surfaces of the discs and the orthotropy of material thermal conductivity. Flash temperature has been determined based on calculation formula with account of thermal sensitivity and temperature-dependent hardness of friction material.
