Analytical model to predict mean temperature in a braking system

Abstract

Analytical model have been obtained for predicting the thermal behavior of the braking system. The boundary-value problem of heat conduction has been formulated for an orthotropic strip heated on its friction surface by a heat flux with intensity proportional to the time-dependent specific friction power. The problem takes into account exponential growth of the contact pressure during braking and convective cooling on the lateral surfaces of the disc. Solution to this problem has been obtained as the analytical formula to calculate spatial-temporal distribution of mean temperature in the brake disc. Reliability of this model was validated by comparison of obtained results with experimental data.
