Determination of the Maximum Temperature of the Friction Pad in a One-Disk Clutch

Abstract

We obtain the exact solution of the thermal problem of friction for a one-disk clutch with regard for the power law of variation of the friction torque with time. The evolution of the angular velocity, specific friction power, and temperature is investigated. The engineering formulas are proposed for finding the maximum temperature, the time of its attainment, and the duration of heating of the clutch depending on the parameter that describes the time profile of the friction torque. It is shown that the obtained analytic results are in good agreement with the available numerical solutions.
